Temple History

Coventry Arulmighu Shree Muthumariamman Temple is a First Tamil Hindu Temple in Coventry which has started on December 2009.  Shree Muthumariamman Temple was started by Mr Nathan Rahulanas a “SaivaSamayaNarpaniManram” (Hindu Community Society) during the month of December 2009, where the devotees united and offered prayers to the photo images of Muthumariamman, Vinayagar, Murugar , Valli, Theivanai and Iyappan, on every Friday and auspicious days  in a Small room (Sports Centre) in Radford, Coventry, where it has been registered as a Charity under the name of Hindu Community Society (SaivaSamayaNarpaniManram).  Then the Founder searched for a permanent place to purchase, where the People can offer prayers every day. After lengthy search he found the place in Foleshill.  With lots of obstacles and tough days he leased the place in 134 Station street west, Foleshill, Coventry, CV6 5ND

Naturally our weekly poojas continued to take place at thenew premises, with a great success. With the help of the devotees Shrines and idols brought from India.
The purificatory rites of the images through various adhivasams where the images are kept in dhaanyam (grains of paddy)-dannyathivasam, jalam (water) Jaladhivasam, offering flowers-Pushpadhivasam,offering of ksheeram (milk), and hanam (gold, silver, etc); and the final adhivasam, called sayanathivasam, which is the resting of the images in new clothes on beds under blankets. The moola mantra homams (oblations done while reciting the moola mantra for each divinity) are performed on several days to invoke the power of the deities in the images. Netronmeelanam is another ritual in which the sthapathi open the eyes of the murtishave been conducted in this present place.

As we all know, more number of devotees are being benefited through our Muthumariamman temple and it is growing in a fast pace. At the same time, the temple is willing to share the golden opportunity for the devotees to serve our Amman through various ways. The seva provides a unique opportunity to serve fellow devotees and participate devoutly in service aimed at the essence of fellowship. According to the scriptures, Divine grace can be obtained not only by worshiping the Amman in the sanctum but also by serving her devotees. Thus, at our Muthumariamman Temple, the added benefit of receiving Amman’s blessings and grace is through selfless service to the Divine.

Now, the temple lease is coming to an end, where we need to buy and build a Temple as per agama for our Mother Muthumariamman at Coventry.  The Proposed building to purchase is cost £5,20,000 and the total cost of building construction is estimated at £1,35,00,000. The whole building is divided into 10,200 units. Thus, each unit would cost minimum of  £25. We appeal to all devotees to donate towards the cost as much as each can afford; at least 1 unit each. Apart from over 10,200 sqft. of worship area, new space for offices, coat room, multipurpose hall for dining and holding religious events and talks plus a kitchen will be  constructed.
